Sometimes our plants produce more than we can consume. This can lead to spoiling and wasted produce. To combat this think of some ways you or someone else can store it.
Sell it:
Many places and communities have farmers markets that you can bring your produce to sell. However, make sure to check rules and regulations on what you can sell and how. You may also be able to sell it to local supermarkets.
Give to Family and Neighbors:
Trading produce with neighbors is another great option if they have different produce than you. You can work with them and plan crops that each of you will grow based on your space availability and trade.
Donate it:
Many food banks, food pantries, and soup kitchens will gladly take donations to feed the hungry. Contact the organization for more details.
Store it:
Some fruits and vegetables can be stored in dry areas such as panties for weeks at a time. Other produce can be converted into other meals, condiments, etc. that can also be stored.
Cook it: Some items such as berries can be converted into jams and preserves that can be stored. Tomatoes can be made into ketchup and sauce
Can it: Jams, sauces, and more can be canned and preserved.
Freeze it: Other foods go well in the freezer to be used later such as carrots, broccoli, and more.
